About Me
Joanne Culver, founder of Diversity Counseling of Nevada, is a dedicated and compassionate mental health professional specializing in addiction counseling and co-occurring disorders. With over a decade of experience in the field, she brings a unique and deeply personal perspective to her work, drawing from her own journey of recovery and self-discovery.
Joanne has been in recovery from alcoholism since 2007, a transformative experience that fuels her passion for helping others navigate their own paths to sobriety and mental wellness. She holds an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Human Services Addiction Counseling from Austin Community College (2011), a Bachelor of Science in Social Psychology – Clinical and Abnormal from Park University (2012), and a Master ofArts in Addiction Counseling from the prestigious Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies (2014).
Her professional expertise is enriched by her lived experience with co-occurring disorders, allowing her to connect with clients on a profound level. Joanne’s approach to counseling is rooted in authenticity, empathy, and evidence-based practices, ensuring that each person she works with feels seen, heard, and empowered in their journey toward healing.
In 2016, Joanne embraced her identity as a transgender woman, a milestone that deepened her understanding of personal authenticity and resilience. As an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and veterans, she is committed to creating inclusive, affirming spaces for individuals seeking support in both mental health and substance use recovery.
A Texas native, Joanne was raised in Fredericksburg, TX, and is an honorably discharged veteran who served from 2002 to 2004. She has lived and worked in Las Vegas, Nevada, since October 2020, where she is part of an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) dedicated to providing structured, supportive care for individuals facing substance use and mental health challenges, with a special focus on LGBTQ+ individuals and veterans.
Joanne’s long-term vision includes building a premier mental health and substance abuse agency in Las Vegas that becomes the go-to resource for LGBTQ+ individuals and veterans seeking culturally competent and affirming care. She is also passionate about education, advocacy, and empowering others to find strength in their own stories.
